Muffle furnaces with silicon carbide heating elements can reach temperatures up to 1600°C, while high-temperature muffle furnaces with molybdenum disilicide heating elements can reach temperatures up to 1800°C.

However, materials testing may require a more advanced muffle furnace that allows for precise control of heating rates and timing.
